Class Description: P.E. and tumbling will be a fun time of stretching, beginning tumbling, and playing games.

Class Description: Grossology is the science of really gross things, and grossologists are the people who study the really gross.  In this class, we will use science to study, in a hands-on atmosphere, all the stinky, slimy, smelly, crusty, rotten, and oozing things we can find!  Explore all the grossest things and how they apply in nature.

Class Description: Boys will learn basic rules for football.  Strength and endurance training as well as game practice will also be included.  Students need to wear appropriate clothes and shoes and bring a water bottle to each class.

Class Title: Dance! - girls only 
Teacher:  Sarah Beth Wall
Class Description: This class will focus on fundamental ballet training and conditioning.  Students will learn the proper way to stretch to prevent injuries and how to incorporate dance as a part of worship.  Each week will also highlight a different flavor of dance--i.e. jazz, lyrical, hip hop, swing, and Irish--just for fun!  Please wear a pair of comfy stretch pants (not jeans) and a smile!

Class Title: Colonial History
Teacher:  Leslie Campbell
Class Description: This class will be largely hands-on, utilizing pockets packets to introduce and build upon knowledge of Colonial History.  Class time will be spent on activities such as art work and role play in addition to reading and Q&A worksheets.  Optional projects will be introduced to students at the beginning of the semester.

Class Title: Chapel Design
Teacher:  Dirk Hodges
Class Description: This class is one of the highlights of Journey Academy.  Students participate in the JA praise band, learn about leading in the worship experience, and design and oversee audio visual elements for chapel, among other things.

Class Title:  High School Literature
Teacher:  Shelley Mullins
Class Description:  This class will utilize a variety of books, including Christian fiction and classical literature.  Students will be required to complete weekly assignments outside of class that will include reading and writing.  This will be a full class load, and students will receive one high school credit for completion of the full year (Sept. – May).  
 
*NOTE:  The class will begin with In His Steps, by Charles M. Sheldon.  Please have this book in advance of the first class.

Class Title:  Spanish
Teacher:  Cindy Edwards
Cost:  $25/month, or $40 per family/month. 

Class Time:  Mondays, 2-4 p.m. (Please note that this class does not meet during Journey Academy's Thursday schedule.  JA provides the facility only; all fees are paid directly to the teacher.)  For more information regarding this class, please contact Cindy Edwards at cedwards@ecsintl.com or (817) 223-2403.

Class Description:  This is a first year Spanish class and will count as one high school credit.  Weekly tests will be given over vocabulary and basic grammar, and class participation will be very important.  In addition to basic language instruction, the class will also include discussion of Spanish and Mexican arts, culture, and current events.  Weekly assignments will be given to help students explore the language (i.e. read a children's book in Spanish, watch a movie in Spanish with English subtitles).  Mrs. Edwards' desire is for students to learn the language in a fun, hands-on way, while holding them accountable for their learning.
Time required outside of class:  Study outside of class will be required.

A little bit about Mrs. Edwards:  Cindy Edwards is a former pre-school director, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Counseling with a minor in Child Development/Sociology.  She has experience working with children of all ages. Her foreign language background consists of 5 years of language including Spanish and French.  While accompanying her husband, Jeff, on business trips, Mrs. Edwards has spent much time traveling in Spanish-speaking countries, with at least one week in South America each year for the last 5 years.  Mr. Edwards will attend one class to share the importance of learning a second language, and their son, Dustin, an advanced Spanish student, will be assistant teaching the class once a month.
