Freedom Church began as Wichita Street Baptist Church in 1949. The original location was at the corner of Pecos and Wichita in Fort Worth (3057 Pecos). The original pastor was R.A. Dodd. At one point the church ran approximately 500 in Sunday school.
In 1989, the church moved to its present location. Wichita Street Baptist Church changed its name to Royal Oaks Baptist Church shortly thereafter. In 2001 the name was changed to Royal Oaks Church, and in 2003 the name was changed to Freedom Church.
